I came across this video some days ago and I loved it!
An important part of our job is providing  feedback to our students. Sometimes, when reading our students' production, we begin to correct, highlight, use question marks for the parts we don't get and  we tend to write comments too. The impression that the students get from their papers is not a very inspiring one! and this can lead to frustration and a high affective filter.
is that desirable? definitely, No!!!
As you can see in the video, giving precise instructions is a way to encourage our students to improve (there is always something to be improved). We can just use their productions and work in class to polish them. We may
guide them by saying for example:
- Let´s work on tense agreement!
- Now, I want you to work on punctuation marks!
- What about vocabulary? which words can be modified to give your writing a better presentation?
- etc.
I now it takes time, but I think it will pay off!
The next time they write, It will help them to have a checklist at hand to do this process on their own until it becomes automatic.

Happy Teacher's Day

Today we celebrate being a teacher! Congratulations to all of you for the magnificient work you carry out DAILY. 

Sometimes we think that our Job is understimated... But the good thing about being a teacher is that where you are, you can make a better World. 

Teaching the students that we have (not the ones we used to have or the ones that we would like to have).

I hope you are enjoying your day! Remember that to build a good rapport is essential for learning to take place. Sometimes a smile, a positive comment or just your ears can be what your students need to feel better! 

 It is said that the influence of a good teacher can never be erased... So, don't give up! We need teachers like you in this province, in this country and in this World. 

Pay attention!!

Imagen If we could discover how to set the parameters for all the languages which we wish to speak. It would be fantastic, won't it? I read that only intelligent people can master a language different from their L1. However, only WISE people can master the art of remaining in silence, when appropriate, in both of them... 

Winter Holidays!

How are you doing during this short break?
I have been enjoying it by going to different places, sharing time with my family and doing one of the things I enjoy the most: cooking!

Teach with Love

I was having a look at my Teaching Practicum folder. Last class we worked with "Dreams" after listening to Martín Luther Jr's speech. I asked the students to write about their Dreams. Then, We helped them to write them in english... But... I read this, and suddenly realised that what was important at that point was to hug the student and keep the dream for me.
Sometimes we do not realise that a classroom is the only safe place students may encounter in their daily life...

LEARNING is all about Struggle and Investment

 Keep in mind that while you should spend the appropriate amount of time studying, going overboard is counterproductive. Students often mistakenly think that if they spend an excessive amount of time studying they will be better prepared. Long study sessions often become boring, and when your mind starts to wander, this study time is wasted. Spending an entire day cramming before a big exam is not the way to go. Learn how long you tend to concentrate on different subjects so that you can schedule focused, effective study sessions.
Now, let's take a break and enjoy some Netflix time :)

It is said that when we learn a new language, we learn to see the world through a new pair of eyes :) 

Exam Time!

Today I was planning my students' exam, and I started remembering about how I used to feel when I was at the other side of the table.
I remembered all the stressing experiencies, and how my hands trembled when the teacher gave me the exercises.
Exams are usually unfair because many situations are not taken into account.
How can we lower the students' affective filter and help them to feel more confident?
I thought about this detail. It's not something big or expensive, but I think my students will feel a little more relaxed.
I trust them! And I know how hard they have been working!
What's more eating something sweet is usually recomended before exams. Scientists claim that if there isn't enough glucose in the brain, for example, neurotransmitters, the brain's chemical messengers, are not produced and communication between neurons breaks down.

Let's apply the theory!

SIX STEP SEQUENCE

Task:

• Write your favourite family recipe and share it with your classmates!

1)Schema bulding: Introduce food items that they are likely to use for the recipe, sequence adverbs (first/then/next/after that/ finaally) and commands.

2)Controlled practice: Provide students with steps of an easy recipe which are not in order. They will have to organize the steps using first/ then/next/after that/finally) and commands (mix, add, bake)

2)Controlled practice: Provide students with a list of food items and ask them to choose the ones that will be needed to prepare the muffin.

3)Authentic listening practice: The students will watch a video and then they will make a list of the ingrdients mentioned by the chef. 

4)Authentic listening practice: With the same video, students will identify the number of steps of the recipe.

4)Focus on linguistic elements: Watching the video again, they will have to pay attention to the verbs used to give instructions: Command verbs related with cooking.

5)Provide freer practice: Now students will complete a chart to order the steps of how to prepare their own muffins. Here they will be asked to use not only adverbs but also the commands.

6)Pedagogical task: Write a family recipe that you want to share with your classmates. Film yourself performing it.

The Importance of Creating a Good Classroom Atmosphere

We have heard many times of the importance of creating a suitable atmosphere for learning to take place in our classrooms. According to Krashen, emotional variables can either facilitate or hinder L2 acquisition.
We love this video because it shows us what being a teacher is all about! If we want our students to feel comfortable, to be confident enough and to try again and again, we should provide them with an unthreatening atmosphere. Nothing better than a non-conventional Morning Song!
